Connect With Other Like Minded Musicians In The Weekly Music Licensing Mastermind
The concept of the “master mind alliance” was introduced by Napoleon Hill in his book from the 1920s, The Law of Success, and expanded upon in his 1930s book, Think And Grow Rich. While Napoleon Hill called it a “master mind alliance,” it’s been shortened and modernized to “mastermind group" or simply, "mastermind".
Mastermind groups have been around since the beginning of time. Even Benjamin Franklin belonged to such a group, which he called a Junto. But it was Napoleon Hill who explained it clearly and encouraged people to gather together in a structured, repeatable environment for the success of all.
Napoleon Hill wrote about the mastermind group principle as:
“The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony.”
He continues…
“No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind [the master mind].”

The seventh week of Gary Gray's Advanced Craftsmen Clinic Series continues on Independence Day in the US. In this session the concept of pairing Mastermind members with each other is introduced as a way of experiencing the recommended, positive pressures of mixing live sound in order to become a craftsman level mixer in the studio.
Gary discovered that remote online producing/engineering with his new revolutionary live streaming workflow during the COVID-19 lockdowns is at least equal to, if not better, than running live sound! In Gary's own words, "positive, constructive pressure creates a 'diamond ninja,' and that's what we want when mixing. We want competence and confidence."
Gary shows a great example of advanced mixing and routing. He covers the subject of deciding whether "gluing a mix together" (using compression and/or limiting) or not "gluing a mix together" is right for your project. And then he unveils an awesome technique where you can do BOTH in the same mix. Gary also discusses using preset effects as a starting (or ending) point while mixing, and how certain genres of music may need a certain "glue" treatment, especially to match competitive loudness and beefiness in that genre.
All mixing is ESPECIALLY effective when one knows how to use reference tracks properly -- and Gary covers this in detail. A member shares their life story and their music for the "Show & Tell Triple Play" segment.
